O’Brien claims one-meter title at Texas Diving Invitational

Sophomore Meghan O’Brien climbs from eighth place to a convincing victory in the one-meter finals.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas sophomore Meghan O'Brien rebounded from a tough start and pulled away to victory in the women's one-meter finals Friday evening on day two of the Texas Diving Invitational.
O'Brien sat in eighth place through the first round before consistently hitting the remainder of her five dives to win the title. O'Brien seized the lead through round four with 206.30 points and won the event with points 315.30 points, as she outdistanced second-place Phoebe Lamay of California by over 12 points.
"I wanted to redeem myself after yesterday, and I stayed focused down the stretch," O'Brien said. "I knew how to do the dives, just knew I needed to relax and get my mind out of it. I had a tough warmup, and it was definitely good to redeem myself in the end."
O'Brien joined two more Longhorns in the final. Sophomore Sofia Rauzi enjoyed a strong performance and placed fourth overall with 289.05 points. Freshman Alison Gibson, the three-meter champion Thursday evening, took sixth in the one-meter final with 285.15 points.
The Texas women wrap the Texas Diving Invitational on Saturday with the platform final at 10 a.m. CT.
