Roach Jr. leads Longhorns with 16 points in Legends Classic consolation game.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Kerwin Roach Jr. scored a team-high 16 points and freshman forward Jarrett Allen added 15 points and six rebounds, but the No. 22/21 Longhorns fell to Colorado in the Legends Classic consolation game on Tuesday, 68-54, at Barclays Center. The Longhorns (3-2) shot 45-percent from inside the arc (18-of-40), but the team's success from the three-point line was limited, hitting only 17.6-percent of its shots from beyond the arc (3-of-17).
Colorado (4-1) was led by a trio of players scoring in double-digits, with Derrick White pacing the Buffaloes with 16 points. George King recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Josh Fortune added 11 points and three rebounds.
Texas fell behind by as many as eight in the first half but came within three points following a layup by Andrew Jones, narrowing the Buffaloes' lead to 23-20 at the 6:48 mark. Colorado would counter with an 8-0 run over 3:35 to extend its lead and take a 33-24 advantage into halftime.
Both teams converted four of their first five offensive possessions to open the second half. The Buffaloes built and sustained a double-digit lead for a significant amount of the second half, extending its lead to 52-40 following a 3-pointer from King with 7:59 remaining.
The Longhorns used an 11-2 run over 2:22 thanks to three converted and-one opportunities to trim the margin to 54-51 with 5:12 remaining. The Buffaloes would not let Texas get any closer, as another trey from White extended the lead to 63-53 with 2:47 left and sealed the victory.
Colorado recorded 17 offensive boards and outrebounded the Longhorns by a 41-32 margin.
The Longhorns return home to face UT Arlington on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
