Junior Brooke McCarty and Senior Kelsey Lang both staked their places in all-time Texas top-10 lists.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Junior Brooke McCarty led Texas with 15 points and senior Kelsey Lang picked up her second-straight double-double as No. 14/15 Texas Women's Basketball (2-4) was defeated by No. 2-2 UConn (7-0) inside the Mohegan Sun Arena, 72-54.
Both McCarty and Lang carved their spots in all-time Texas top-10 lists. McCarty's three triples moves her into 10th all-time for three-pointers made with 117, while Lang's two blocks places her 9th all-time for career blocks with 122.
UConn leads the all-time series over Texas, 8-0.
"I think the biggest difference is execution," said Texas head coach Karen Aston. "They executed offensively and we didn't. We just have to be tougher."
McCarty's 15 points included a 3-of-7 shooting effort from downtown along with three boards and assists. Lang picked up her third career and second-consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 boards with a side of two blocks.
Sophomore Lashann Higgs totaled nine points on the night, and freshman Joyner Holmes posted six points along with two boards and steals for the match.
As a team, Texas shot 43.1 percent from the floor (22-of-51) while UConn shot at a 49.1 percent mark (26-of-53). The Longhorns outrebounded the Huskies, 31-34, and have not lost a battle of the boards this season.
The Huskies were led by sophomore Napheesa Collier with 24 points and eight rebounds.
Texas controlled the entire first quarter, dominating the paint. After a Huskie trey tied things at six, the Horns fired off the next six points to lead by as many at the 4:45 mark. Sutton notched Texas' first three-pointer of the match to make it 17-11 Longhorns just under the two minute mark, but two straight Huskies baskets closed the quarter, handing Texas the slim 17-15 advantage.
UConn opened the second stanza on an 11-2 tear to take the 26-19 lead, but the Longhorns battled it back to a one-basket game after a Holmes layup with 4:03 remaining in the half. The Huskies knocked down two three-pointers and a jumper to increase their lead to double-figures, and one from the line from McCarty ended the half in UConn's favor, 39-30.
Texas was able to close the margin to two late in third, utilizing strong paint play and three-points from McCarty and Taylor, to make it a 51-49 UConn at the 3:18 mark. The Huskies were relentless and captured the last six points of the stanza to extend their lead to 57-49.
UConn closed the game with a 21-5 stretch that dampened the Texas momentum. McCarty added her third triple of the night along with a Higgs layup, but UConn took the game, 72-54.
Next, Texas will begin a five-game homestand against No. 22/25 Tennessee on Sunday, Dec. 11 inside the Erwin Center. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be carried live on FS1.
