Two-time All-America Breaunna Addison is UT’s first top-10 singles player in five years.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas two-time All-America senior Breaunna Addison vaulted to a career-high No. 8 in the latest ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) singles rankings published Wednesday.
The 2014 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year is the first Longhorn to crack the top-10 of the ITA women's singles rankings since Aeriel Ellis ranked eighth on Jan. 4, 2011. Addison had been ranked as high as No. 10 on Sept. 6, 2013 prior to her No. 8 listing in Wednesday's poll.
"Naturally, we are only in the infantile stages of the season," said first-year UT head coach Howard Joffe, "but Bree's inclusion in the top-10 reflects the extent to which she has been committed to her tennis and the level at which she has played since September. I'm very proud of her."
Addison is off to a torrid 20-2 singles mark as a senior, which includes a perfect 4-0 record in dual matches over the last month. The five-time All-Big 12 Conference selection boasts eight wins over ITA-ranked opponents with three of those wins at the expense of top-20 foes.
Addison opened her senior campaign with seven consecutive singles wins last fall before rattling off an equally impressive run of six straight wins en route to the ITA Texas Regional singles title.
Addison, who is closing in on 100 singles wins in her three-plus seasons at Texas, became the first Texas freshman to reach the NCAA Championships' singles semifinals back in 2013.
She qualified for the NCAA Championships' singles draw in her previous three seasons at Texas and is poised to earn one of the 64 bids available once more in May.
Addison and the Longhorns resume 2016 dual-match play this Saturday when they visit Rice.
