No. 7 Duke edges Women's Tennis, 4-3

UT All-America senior Breaunna Addison wins eighth straight match, improves to 22-2 this season.
DURHAM, N.C. – Texas (3-3) notched wins from All-America senior Breaunna Addison, All-Big 12 junior Neda Koprcina and freshman Katie Poluta, but No. 7 Duke (7-1) held on for a 4-3 win over the 40th-ranked Longhorns Sunday at the Blue Devils' Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
Duke assumed a 1-0 lead after winning doubles contests at the first and third doubles positions. The Blue Devils stretched their lead to 3-0 behind victories at the fourth and second singles positions before Addison put the Horns on the board.
Addison remained unbeaten in 2016 and improved to 22-2 overall for the 2015-16 campaign with her 6-1, 7-5 win over the Blue Devils' 24th-ranked Beatrice Capra at first singles. The win marked Addison's fourth victory over a top-25 opponent this season and her 10th win over an ITA ranked foe.
Duke clinched the team victory with its win at sixth singles, but the Longhorns finished strong and put away victories at the fifth and third singles positions. Poluta collected her first win over a ranked opponent and defeated Duke's 68th-ranked Ellyse Hamlin, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Koprcina also put away a three-set win and held off the Blue Devils' Chalena Scholl at third singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and improved to 6-0 in dual matches.
"Playing away at a top-10 team is always a tough assignment," said first-year UT head coach Howard Joffe. "The loss is naturally disappointing for a group that is as driven as our group is. That said, the 4-3 result is emblematic of the direction this team is taking."
Texas heads to Montgomery, Alabama next weekend for the annual Blue-Gray Tennis Classic.
