The Longhorns recorded their 25th win of the season for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.

LUBBOCK, Texas— Sophomore Ariel Atkins scored a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds to lead No. 8/8 Texas over Texas Tech, 76-55, inside the United Supermarkets Arena on Wednesday evening.
With the win, Texas (25-2, 14-2 Big 12 Conference) reached the 25-win mark for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign. The Longhorns have secured at least a second place finish in the Big 12, reaching the 14-win plateau in conference for the first time since 2003-04. The Horns lead the all-time series against the Lady Raiders, 67-29, and have won the last six consecutive meetings.
Atkin's 18 points came behind a 6-of-8 effort from the floor. Sophomore Brooke McCarty totaled 11 points on the night, and senior Celina Rodrigo added a team-high four assists. Sophomore Tasia Foman recorded her Big 12-career high with nine points and three rebounds for the game.
As a team, the Longhorns shot 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the floor while holding the Lady Raiders to a 38.5 (20-of-52) shooting percentage. Texas outrebounded Texas Tech, 41-27, and has won the battle of the boards in 24 of 27 games this season.
Texas Tech (11-16, 2-14 Big 12 Conference) was led by freshman Japreece Dean with 17 points.
After Texas grabbed the first seven points of the game, Texas Tech went on a 16-0 run to take a 16-7 advantage at the 4:35 mark of the first quarter. The Horns tried to rally back, and two traded three-pointers would close the quarter, 23-16 Lady Raiders.
Texas slowly cut into the deficit, and the Horns regained the 26-24 lead after an Atkins jumper with 5:11 remaining in the half. The Longhorns continued to push ahead, and junior Kelsey Lang added eight of the last 13 points to hand Texas a 38-28 advantage headed into the locker rooms.
The Longhorns never led by less than double digits in the third, outscoring the Lady Raiders 18-10 in the quarter. A layup from Foman capped off the third, pushing the margin to 56-38 Texas.
The Horns extended their lead to 24 after a 10-0 push in the heart of the third, making it 68-44 at the media timeout. Tech utilized late threes to try and chip away at the lead, but Texas took the game, 76-55.
