Longhorns rally falls just short in narrow road defeat to Jayhawks
LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 35 Texas (7-5, 0-1 Big 12) posted three singles wins but it wasn't enough as No. 27 Kansas (12-2, 2-0 Big 12) held on for a 4-3 victory over the Longhorns Friday evening at KU's Jayhawk Tennis Center.
Kansas won doubles matches at the second and third positions to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. UT junior Neda Koprcina put the Horns on the board with her 6-2, 7-6 win over Smith Hinton at second singles. Texas took a 2-1 lead behind All-America senior Breaunna Addison's 7-5, 6-1 win over Anastasiya Rychagova at first singles.
The Jayhawks evened the match at two with a win at third singles and reclaimed the lead at 3-2 with a straight-sets win at fourth singles.
Texas freshman Daniella Roldan kept the Horns in the match and evened the contest at three behind her 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win over Summer Collins at fifth singles.
Kansas, however, closed out the 4-3 match win by way of Maria Jose Cardona's 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over UT senior Lana Groenvynck at sixth singles.
Texas closes its road trip on Sunday at Kansas State (11 a.m. CT).

This year's Longhorns seem to have cornered the market on the heartbreaking 4-3 loss. That said, I'm not sure I have been any more proud of a group for the fight, the effort and the classy way they are handling themselves. Along those lines, I'm equally confident that these matches will start to swing in our favor when it most matters toward the end of the season. The disappointment tonight was palpable, but I fully expect this group to be ready to battle again on Sunday.
