AUSTIN, Texas — Sara Hattis, a junior forward on the University of Texas women's basketball team, will seek her graduate degree and will compete in her fifth year of collegiate eligibility at another institution, she announced Tuesday.
Hattis, who has participated in both basketball and volleyball at the University of Texas, will graduate in May with a degree in physical culture & sports with a minor in communication. She looks to pursue a master's degree either sport administration or sport marketing with a career goal of working in the sports industry.
"This was a difficult decision, but I have decided I will be applying to other universities for graduate school and to finish my basketball eligibility," Hattis said. "I am so appreciative of all the University of Texas has done for me both athletically and academically. I can't thank my coaches enough for this opportunity and I cherish the friendships I have made with my teammates. I am currently applying to graduate schools that will allow me to work towards my career goals, while also providing me an opportunity to contribute to their basketball program."
In three seasons with the Texas women's basketball program, Hattis played in 51 career games, averaging 1.6 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game in an average of 6.5 minutes per game.
"We appreciate all Sara has given to our basketball program and Texas athletics in general," Texas head coach Karen Aston said. "Sara's work-ethic and positive attitude have been assets in our gym every day. We wish her the best as she pursues her graduate degree and completes her college basketball career."
