Longhorns registered a total of ten Top 10 NCAA team finishes and claimed eight Big 12 Conference titles.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas officially concluded its 2015-16 athletics season with a fourth-place showing by the women at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday. Of the school's 20 intercollegiate programs, the Longhorns registered seven Top 5 and a total of ten Top 10 NCAA Championship team finishes during the recent academic year.
This marks the most number of Top 5 NCAA team finishes by Texas since the Longhorns posted eight in 2008-09. In fact, since UT added Rowing as a varsity sport in 1997-98 to reach its current total of 20 programs, the seven Top 5 finishes this year marks a tie for the fourth-best total in program history. UT had eight Top 5 finishes in 2008-09, 2005-06 and 2002-03.
This also marks the second straight athletics season that Texas has recorded double-digit Top 10 NCAA team finishes. The Longhorns posted 11 Top 10 NCAA team finishes in 2014-15.
Texas recorded Top 5 NCAA performances in Men's Swimming & Diving (National Champions), Volleyball (NCAA runner-up), Men's Golf (NCAA runner-up), Women's Indoor Track & Field (fourth), Women's Outdoor Track & Field (fourth), Men's Indoor Track & Field (fifth) and Women's Basketball (tied for fifth). The Longhorns added Top 10 finishes in Rowing (eighth), Men's Tennis (tied for ninth) and Women's Tennis (tied for ninth).
In addition to its success on the national level, Texas claimed eight Big 12 Conference titles (Volleyball, Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's Golf, Rowing, Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Men's Outdoor Track & Field). UT has captured a league-best 158 all-time Big 12 Championships (regular season and postseason) through the completion of the 2015-16 season.
