AUSTIN, Texas – A group of current and future Longhorns have aspirations of wearing Red, White and Blue this summer as well at the IAAF World Junior Championships. They will begin that quest this weekend at the USATF Junior Championships with spots on Team USA up for grabs.
Action runs Friday through Sunday from Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California. A total of 13 current and future Longhorns will be in action with four of them being incoming freshman from the 2016 signing class.
Two spots on Team USA for the IAAF World Junior Championships are on the line at this weekend's meet as national teams may enter a maximum of two athletes per event this summer. The junior world championships will be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from July 19-24. The men will be represented by John Burt in the 110 meter hurdles; Steffin McCarter in the long jump; and Alex Rogers is currently entered in both the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Texas women will have six current and four future Longhorns competing this weekend with Teahna Daniels in the 100 meters; Sydne Fowler in 400 meter hurdles; Asa Garcia in the triple jump; Zola Golden in the 400 meters; Meghan Lloyd in the steeplechase and Ashley Miller in the 100 meter hurdles.
