AUSTIN, Texas – It was a great day for Longhorn hurdlers at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Rising sophomore Mariam Abdul-Rashid ran in the final of the 400 meter hurdles while also advancing in another event with a future teammate of hers.
Abdul-Rashid finished in eighth place in the 400 meter hurdles for Team Canada on Friday from the World Junior Championships as she crossed the line in 59.66 seconds.
The day started with Abdul-Rashid taking second in her heat of the 100 meter hurdles. She clocked 13.65 seconds to finish behind Alexis Duncan from Team USA. Duncan, an incoming freshman at UT, posted the No. 2 time of the preliminaries at 13.11 seconds.
The two Longhorns will run in the semifinals at 10:15 a.m. CT. Abdul-Rashid could possibly run during the semifinals of the 4x400 relay for Canada as well during the early session on Saturday.
