Durant leads Team USA to win against Argentina in Rio Olympics quarterfinals

RIO — Former University of Texas standout Kevin Durant posted a team-high 27 points to lead Team USA to a 105-78 win against Argentina (3-3) in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Olympics on Wednesday evening. Durant converted 9-of-13 field goals, including 7-of-9 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 free throws while adding a team-best 6 assists, 7 rebounds and 1 steal in a team-high 28 minutes.
Durant has reached double figures in scoring in each of the first six games at the Rio Olympics and in all 14 career games played in Olympic competition. Through the first six contests in Rio, Durant leads Team USA in scoring (18.5 ppg) and minutes (28.2 mpg) while converting 36-of-58 (.621) field goals, including 18-of-27 (.667) from three-point range, and 21-of-25 (.840) free throws.
The Americans (6-0) advance to the semifinal round and will face Spain (4-2) on Friday, Aug. 19. Tip time for that contest is set for 1:30 p.m. Central, and the game will be televised live by NBC Sports Network. Spain advanced with a 92-67 win against France earlier on Wednesday.
The other semifinal contest will feature Australia (5-1), which defeated Lithuania 90-64 earlier on Wednesday, and Serbia (3-3), which defeated Croatia 86-83 late Wednesday. The gold and bronze medal games will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21.
