No. 2 Men's Swimming and Diving scores three wins on day one of double dual

Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling knocks off a world champion, and freshman diver Jordan Windle sweeps the springboards in his collegiate debut.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Joseph Schooling's victory over a world champion plus a pair of victories from freshman diver Jordan Windle highlighted night one for No. 2 Texas Friday night in its double-dual meet against No. 4 Florida and No. 6 Indiana.
Texas trails both the Gators and Hoosiers with one session remaining on Saturday. The Longhorns trail Indiana 134-109 and Florida by a 140-103 count. Indiana leads Florida, 138-105. The same three teams begin the second and final session on Saturday at 9 a.m. Central. Windle won the one-meter diving event with plenty of room to spare. The two-time World Championships qualifier was victorious with 390.70 points. Sophomore Reed Merritt took third with 302.85 points, and his classmate Jacob Cornish placed fourth at 294.05. Windle led a one-two Texas finish atop the final three-meter diving standings with 388.25 points. All-America sophomore Grayson Campbell followed in second with 376.40 points.
Texas opened the swimming portion of the meet with a third-place mark of 1 minute, 27.95 seconds in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Chris Yeager led the Horns in the 1,000 freestyle with his second-place time of 9:09.64. Junior Tate Jackson led the Horns two events later in the 50 freestyle with his fourth-place mark of 20.28. Senior Jonathan Roberts followed suit with his fourth-place time of 1:48.50 in the 200 IM.
Schooling took on his former club teammate, Caeleb Dressel of Florida, in the 100 butterfly. The event pitted the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the event (Schooling) against this year's world champion (Dressel). Schooling took the win at 46.57 while Indiana's Vini Lanza placed second at 46.68. Dressel took third at 47.17.
Senior Brett Ringgold led the Horns with his third-place mark of 43.84 in the 100 freestyle. Junior John Shebat, the 2017 NCAA runner-up and the school record holder in the 100 backstroke, placed third in the event Friday evening in 48.39. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Harty placed fourth at 49.09.
Junior Townley Haas, a former NCAA champion in the 500 freestyle, took second in the event at 4:26.01. Freshman Chris Yeager added a third-place mark of 4:28.89. Texas capped the night with a second-place mark of 2:58.64 in the 400 freestyle relay.
