Poluta advances to finals at Alabama

Junior Katie Poluta and senior Dani Wagland post singles wins on day one of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Texas junior Katie Poluta advanced to the finals of her singles flight Friday at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by The University of Alabama.
Poluta posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tea Jandric of Ole Miss in the first round (quarterfinals) of her singles draw. The South African advanced to the final after her semifinal opponent withdrew from the tournament. Poluta will meet Alabama's 37th-ranked Andie Daniell in the final on Saturday.
Senior Dani Wagland scored a significant first-round win and upset Ole Miss' 91st-ranked Anna Vrbenska, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-2). Wagland fell just short of the final after suffering a semifinal defeat to South Carolina's Rianna Valdes.
