With 2:16 left in the first half, the Longhorns stretched their lead to double-digits (35-23) after a quick 6-2 spurt behind four points from Roach. A pair of Osetkowksi free throws at the 1:15 mark sent the Longhorns into the halftime with their largest lead of the half at 14 (39-25).
The Texas defense forced nine Wildcat turnovers in the first half and UT won the points-off-turnover battle 14-0. The Longhorns held UNH to just 9-26 (34.6 percent) shooting from the field and 25 percent (3-12) from deep.
In the second half, Texas built a 55-35 lead with 11:17 remaining after a layup by Davis Jr. forced a Wildcat timeout.
New Hampshire cut the Longhorn lead to 15 points (59-44) with just under 10 minutes to play following a pair of three-pointers. The Texas defense held UNH without a field goal for the next five minutes and built a 74-53 cushion with 4:33 left. Jones scored the final four points for Texas and the Longhorns secured the 78-60 win.
UT held New Hampshire to just 10-34 (29.4 percent) shooting from the field in the second half. Texas shot 47.5 percent (29-61) from the field for the game and led from start-to-finish.

TEXAS QUOTES
Head Coach Shaka Smart
On how the team handled the score being tight early on: I feel that our guys had a good level of respect for New Hampshire coming into the game. We'd talked about that quite a bit. Armstrong (Jacoby Armstrong), number three, he didn't shoot threes the year before. He sat out last year. We hit a couple of stretches in the first half where I thought that we defended really, really well. That allowed us to build a lead. We were consistent with that. When we didn't shoot the ball well tonight, it was partly because I think the ball stuck too much.
On what junior forward Dylan Osetkowski needs to do better: Everything, but he's a really good player. To me, he's out there having fun with a clear mind and trying to be a leader with his teammates. He's trying to orchestrate offense and defense. He's not a guy that we expect or want to be perfect. Nobody is. He's a little bit of a perfectionist, which is a good thing sometimes. But sometimes you've got to let go and keep playing.
On the team playing without freshman forward Mohamed Bamba: I'm always intrigued to see how guys handle reality. Without Mo practicing yesterday, not playing today, that was our reality coming into this game. So there's no sense in us hanging our head, getting down or folding up the tent. Our team is about more than one player. Mo's a big piece of it and he's a guy that we want to have out there. He's an important part of our attack on both ends. But obviously it gives Jericho (Sims) a chance to start, and it gives Royce (Hamm Jr.) a chance to play more. We've got to keep working to get those guys better.
On becoming the best defensive team in the nation: You've got to give them (New Hampshire) some credit. They made some good shots in the second half. They made five threes. But we need to do a lot better. I think it starts with having the maturity to understand that a possession is extremely important regardless of the score. Sometimes, with young guys, it takes time to learn that. But we've got to get better.
Junior guard Eric Davis Jr.
On how it felt to have more minutes in this game: It felt good just being out there with my teammates, getting a feel for everything and just winning. So it definitely felt good.
On what allowed them to steadily build a lead: The leadership these guys have shown, staying composed, leading the young guys. We've been in that situation multiple times and obviously that's not the right thing to do, to panic, so we stay composed, stay poised. These two guys here did a great job along with Andrew Jones, Matt Coleman, and other guys, of staying composed and just leading.
On Smart's message after the game: He just wants more and to continue to get better. Obviously winning is good, but just be greedy. Want more. You can never be too greedy. It's all about winning and getting better. So that's basically the main message, to continue to get better and let's get another win.
Junior guard Kerwin Roach II
On what team did defensively to take hold of the game: I would just say our scouting. We did really good in our scouting and our preparation. We knew how to guard it, so we just did that. We switched up the look, gave them a different look every time, and switched up the tempo really.
On how the team works on protecting the ball and minimizing turnovers: We just treat the ball like it's gold. Our strength coach (Daniel Roose) always emphasizes that. Treat the ball like it's gold. That's what we're really doing. We have depth, so when you get tired, just come out and everyone just take care of the ball.
Junior forward Dylan Osetkowski
On his comparison to Draymond Green: I've got a long way to go if I want to be that. There were some plays throughout the game where I made careless mistakes, so I've got a long way to go to get better. I do feel like I could be that, so it starts Thursday. We've got tomorrow off, so rest a little bit, definitely shoot some free throws, and try to come back to get better.
On stepping up in Mohamed Bamba's absence: Mo's a great player, but we've got 12 other scholarship guys. If one goes down, we've got a whole lot of dudes that will step up and fill in in his absence. Obviously, what he brings to the team and on the floor is tremendous. Although he wasn't there tonight, I thought we did a great job collectively, and we've got a lot of room to go.
On what he and Jericho Sims together on the court brings the team: Mo and I didn't play a lot together in practice, so I've had a lot of time with Jericho. We can feed off each other like we did tonight, and as long as we bring energy, effort on the glass, we'll be more than okay.
NEW HAMPSHIRE QUOTES
Head Coach Bill Herrion
On the overall game: We were in a good spot kind of late in the first half. It was a six-point game with five minutes left in the half. We chipped away and got back into the game and had a little bit of control on our end. The zone really bothered us. We did not handle it well once Texas went to the two-three zone. We did not react well. We had a lot of trouble trying to put up shots. We're a team that prides ourselves on toughness, playing hard, defending and rebounding. I think we did a good job of trying to hold on to this high-level team. Texas is good and is making a ton of progress from last year. It was a great opportunity to play at their level.
On not playing against Mohamed Bamba: We were preparing to play against Mo Bamba tonight. We know that he's a great young player. We found out 30 minutes before tip-off that he wasn't playing. I told the kids that Texas was going to bring another top 30 player off the bench who was going to get his minutes and take advantage of the opportunity. Texas pressed us right with Bamba out right off the bat. But to come in here with only 14 turnovers, I think we did things right. We didn't score at the end of the press, but I think we did a good job at handling the ball.
Senior forward Iba Camara
On improvements from last year: I think that I fell back a little bit by having to focus on summer school, and then trying to catch up with the team. The coaches helped me a ton. They tried to get me better and boost my game. I just have to step up and work harder for next game so that I can help this team.
On having so many guys on the inside: I think that it helps a lot. The guys help us compete during practice which really helps us. Even though we are seniors, we need these guys to practice with us and get better for next year.
Senior forward Tanner Leissner
On defense: I think we are making strides forward as a team. We have to remember that it's only the second game of the season. It's only been a couple months of us playing together. Although we still have a ton of work to do, I think we're making strides on who we're going to be on the defensive end. We have to continue to move forward and get better defensively.
On playing against Texas: I think it was a huge opportunity to come in here and take on Texas Basketball. With Shaka Smart coming over, and them getting a ton of top 100 recruits, I believe that they're definitely moving the program forward. Personally, as a senior, I wish that I did more on my end to help my team take on this team. I didn't make enough shots, or do the right things, but moving forward I think this game will be a great learning curve for us.
On his leadership: I take a lot of responsibility and ownership for this team. I'm the hardest critic on myself. For example, I realize that I needed to step up tonight. I should've led the team and done the little things right. I feel like that I didn't do that tonight. However, I really did my best to try and help the team.
