Longhorn men, women recognized for academic successes
USTFCCCA Team Announcement | Individuals
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Cross Country was recognized for its success in the classroom earlier this week when the USTFCCCA announced its 2016 Cross Country All-Academic Teams.
The Texas men and women both made the cut as teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Longhorn women boasted a team GPA of 3.37 while the men tallied a team GPA of 3.21.
Texas also had two women recognized for their efforts as individuals on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Sandie Raines and Meghan Lloyd were honored for their grades and athletic achievements this season as members of the women's team.
To be recognized on the individual team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have finished in the top 25 at their team's respective NCAA Cross Country Regional Championship or been an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
This fall, the Longhorns advanced the men's team through the South Central Regional Championships to the NCAA Championships with a runner-up finish behind Arkansas before finishing 30th at the NCAA meet. The women finished fourth at the regional championship meet.
Individually at the regional meet, Raines finished 12th as the top Longhorn for the women. Lloyd was not far behind in 17th place.
Raines receives her fifth USTFCCCA All-Academic honor having been named to the team for cross country and track and field each season she has been a Longhorn. This is the first such honor for Lloyd.
