AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Joyner Holmes picked up her seventh double-double of the season and junior Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau swatted away a career-high five blocks as No. 11/10 Texas Women's Basketball (20-4, 14-0 Big 12 Conference) pushed by Kansas (8-17, 2-12 Big 12 Conference) inside the Erwin Center on Saturday afternoon, 75-42.
With the win, Texas reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth consecutive season. The Horns are currently on an 18-game win streak, the second longest in the NCAA.
Texas leads the all-times series over Kansas, 24-10, and has captured the past 10 contests.
"I thought today was a really solid performance by our team," said Texas head coach Karen Aston. "Our young players executed things really well today and that means that we are growing and getting better as a basketball team."
Holmes' double-dip was the result of 15 points and 13 boards. Senior Kelsey Lang put up 10 points with six rebounds, and A. Caron-Goudreau complimented her five blocks with four points and six boards.
As a team, Texas shot 46.4 percent (32-69) from the field while holding Kansas to a 21.3 shooting percentage (13-61). The Longhorns outrebounded the Jayhawks, 59-30, and totaled a season-high 13 blocks, tying the fourth-best performance in program history.
Kansas was led by reshirt junior Jessica Washington with 15 points.
Although the Horns jumped out to a 9-3 lead to open the game, Washington put all 10 points on the board for the Jayhawks to cut the lead to one (11-10 Texas) at the 2:34 mark. Two straight buckets from Lang and a junior Ariel Akins layup closed the first, 17-10 Texas.
Strong defensive play, including five blocks from A. Caron-Goudreau in the first half alone, limited Kansas to only eight points in the second quarter. Junior Brooke McCarty knocked down a signature three to send the Horns into the locker room, 36-18.
The Longhorns held the Jayhawks to single-digits again in the third quarter, outscoring Kansas 20-9. Texas closed on a 10-1 rally to lead 56-27 headed into the closer.
All 19 points in the fourth came off the Texas bench. Eight points from sophomore Jordan Hosey led the way for the Horns and secured the 75-42 win.
Next, Texas will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on No. 5/4 Florida State on Monday, Feb. 13. Tip inside the Tucker Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried nationally on ESPN2.
