AUSTIN, Texas – No. 11 Texas (9-1) won the doubles point and put away three singles wins in a 4-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday night at UT's Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center.
Texas quickly produced wins at the first and second doubles positions to win the doubles point and assume a 1-0 lead. UT's 27th-ranked tandem of freshman Yuya Ito and sophomore Harrison Scott dealt Kevin Bettendroffer and William Mottet a 6-1 defeat at first doubles.
Texas closed out the doubles session at the second slot, where freshman Christian Sigsgaard and sophomore Colin Markes finished off Cagatay Soke and Paul Cook by a 6-2 count. The remaining court was suspended.
Sophomore Julian Zlobinsky pushed the Longhorns' lead to 2-0 behind his 6-2, 6-1 win over Gonzalo Achondo at fifth singles. Sophomore Rodrigo Banzer extended the Longhorns' cushion to 3-0 with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Cook at third singles.
Sophomore Leonardo Telles capped the Longhorns' victory with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Paul Cook at third singles. The remaining matches were suspended.
Texas resumes play later this week at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at The University of Virginia. The Longhorns qualified for the event two weeks ago by defeating Drake and Oregon at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event in Austin.
