Longhorns wrap Bay Area road trip on Saturday at No. 6 California.
PALO ALTO, Calif. - No. 8 Texas (13-4) picked up a straight-sets singles win from freshman Yuya Ito, but Stanford (8-3) posted a 4-1 win over the Longhorns Friday evening at the Cardinal's Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford won two of three matches in the doubles session to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Texas freshman Christian Sigsgaard and sophomore Colin Markes teamed up to post a 7-6 win over Wilczynski and Sutter at third doubles, but the Cardinal claimed the second and first positions to win the point.
Ito evened the match for Texas with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Jack Barber at fourth singles. It marked his fifth victory over an ITA top-100 opponent this season. However, Stanford answered with straight-sets wins at the second, sixth and fifth positions to close out the 4-2 victory. The remaining matches were suspended, given Stanford had clinched the team win.
Texas closes out its final non-conference road trip of the season with another stiff challenge on Saturday at No. 6 California. First serve is set for 2 p.m. local time (4 p.m. CT) in Berkeley.
