Austin native Alison Gibson earns her first NCAA Championships berth on three-meter.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Texas freshman diver Alison Gibson posted a top-five finish and locked up her first NCAA Championships berth Monday night at the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet at The University of Missouri.
The top-seven women in Monday's three-meter finals were assured of NCAA Championships berths, and Gibson delivered. The Austin native placed fourth through the preliminary and final rounds with 689.85 points. A finalist on three-meter last summer at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials, Gibson earns her first NCAA Championships bid in her first attempt.
Sophomore Meghan O'Brien missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by one spot, but she can earn NCAA Championships berths on both three-meter and one-meter with a top-seven overall finish in Tuesday's one-meter competition.
O'Brien placed eighth with 658.00 points, less than 10 points out of the final qualifying spot. Automatic qualifiers in one event can earn qualifying bids with a top-12 finish in another event. A top-seven finish in one-meter on Tuesday effectively would give O'Brien two championship berths.
Sophomore Sofia Rauzi also qualified for the three-meter finals and placed 15th overall with 600.45 points.
