Since Texas joined the Big 12 Conference as a charter member with the league's founding in 1996, the Longhorns have been a leader in women's sports in the conference.
Texas has won a league-high 84 Big 12 women's regular-season and tournament championships since 1996, almost twice as many as the next-closest school. Among the conference's current 10 members, the Longhorns have won 35 percent of the conference championships, while no other current member has won even 20 percent. Those performances by Texas women's athletics have helped the Longhorns claim 13 of the last 16 Big 12 all-sports titles from the Waco Tribune-Herald (men's and women's sports combined).
The Longhorn women claimed three Big 12 Conference Championships in 2017, taking home the crown in golf, rowing, and swimming and diving.
With 10 members, the Big 12 remains the only autonomy conference to determine its champions in all head-to-head sports directly on the fields and courts of play with full round-robin scheduling.
