MELBOURNE, Australia — Sophomore guard Andrew Jones recorded 16 points to pace The University of Texas to a 96-84 exhibition victory against the Dandenong Rangers on Tuesday evening at Dandenong Stadium. Dandenong is a professional team that competes in the Australia State League, one level below the National Basketball League (Australia's top professional league).
Jones converted 5-of-8 field goals, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 3-of-3 free throws in the win. Junior forward Dylan Osetkowski registered 15 points while hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range, and freshman forward Mohamed Bamba added 14 points for the Longhorns.
This marks just the second overseas summer tour by a UT men's basketball team and first since the program visited Australia in the summer prior to the 1996-97 season.
The Longhorns return to action tomorrow night (Wednesday, Aug. 16) against Melbourne United from Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). Tip is set for 7 p.m. Australia time (4 a.m. Central). A live video stream for the UT-Melbourne United contest will be available HERE.
