Women's Golf's Hoffman, USA Win Gold at World University Games

Emilee Hoffman finished tied for eighth in the individual standings.
TAIPEI, Taiwan – Sophomore Texas golfer Emilee Hoffman and the United States team claimed the gold medal at the 29th World University Games on Sunday at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Taipei, Taiwan.
Sunday's final round was halted due to rain and did not count towards the final totals. The United States finished with a three-round total of 421 (137-144-140). Chinese Taipei claimed the silver medal with a three-round total of 424 (146-140-138), while the Republic of Korea took bronze with a 431 (146-142-143).
Hoffman finished tied for eighth overall in the individual standings with a two-over-par 218 (75-72-71). Her teammate, UCLA's Mariel Galdiano was the individual gold medalist with a three-round eight-under-par 208 (67-72-69). Stanford's Andrea Lee finished fourth with a two-under-par 214 (70-72-72).
Hoffman's gold medal wraps up an impressive summer for Texas women's golfers. Senior Sophia Schubert became the third golfer in program history and first since 1996 to win the U.S. Women's Amateur. Incoming freshman Agathe Laisne won the 2017 European Ladies Championship, while fellow incoming freshman Kaitlyn Papp was a member of the winning United States team at the 2017 Junior Solheim Cup.
Hoffman, a native of Folsom, Calif., was a member of the Big 12 All-Tournament Team as a freshman, also garnering Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. She posted eight top-25 finishes in her rookie campaign, including a runner-up showing at the Big 12 Championship. Hoffman was the individual champion at the 2017 Lady Paladin Invitational in Greensville, S.C., where she tied a Texas record with a seven-under-par 65 during the first round. Her final score of 210 at that event marked the fourth-lowest total in Texas history.
Hoffman finished her prep career ranked No. 23 in the American Junior Golf Association Polo Golf Rankings, was rated No. 20 by Golfweek and No. 3 in her 2016 class. She won four national tournaments in 20 events during her junior career. She completed her junior golf career with a victory at the 48th-annual Big I National Tournament, including a second-round 64, which set a new women's course record. Hoffman played in the 2016 AJGA Wyndham Cup, helping the West Team to a 26-24 win over the East Team. She was a ROLEX All-American in 2015 and 2016.
