LONDON – Texas sprinter Senoj-Jay Givans made his first appearance for his native Team Jamaica on Friday at the IAAF World Championships. The multiple time All-American and Big 12 champion finished 31st in the 100 meters.
Givans clocked 10.30 second in his heat in his world championship debut. His time would fall short to advance to the semifinals. He needed to run 10.24 or faster to move to the next round.
Givans is one of seven Longhorns competing at the world championships set to run through August 13. Saturday's action for Texas Longhorns will feature Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser in the qualifying round of the men's shot put at 4 a.m. Central.
Coverage of Saturday's early session will be on NBC Sports Network at 4 a.m. An exclusive live feed of the shot put competition will be available for subscribers to NBC Sports Gold, a new online subscription model with extensive track and field coverage from meets across the world.
Texas Head Coach Mario Sategna also will be on hand as he will lead Team USA's men as their head coach. This is his first time serving Team USA as a head coach after being on staff multiple times at world championships and the Olympics as an assistant coach.
