Katie Poluta and Anna Turati earn straight-set wins on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s second round of qualifying.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Senior Katie Poluta and junior Anna Turati both recorded straight-set wins on Saturday in the first round of singles qualifying at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) 25k pro circuit event at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. With their victories, Poluta and Anna Turati advance to the second round of qualifying on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Poluta earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Amanda Vos (USA), while Anna Turati claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win against Payton Andrews (USA). Freshman Tijana Spasojevic dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Rasheeda McAdoo (USA) in her singles qualifying match on Saturday. McAdoo is No. 839 in the most recent WTA (Women's Tennis Association) world singles rankings.
Poluta and Anna Turati must win three qualifying-round matches to advance to the tournament's 32-player main draw that starts on Monday, Nov. 5. Junior Bianca Turati (WTA No. 468) already earned a spot in the tourney's main draw.
