AUSTIN, Texas — Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team fell 71-65 to Providence (10-3) on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes and sophomore guard Matt Coleman III each posted a team-high 13 points for the Longhorns (7-4)
Hayes was a perfect 6-for-6 shooting from the floor. Over the last three games, Hayes has made 16 consecutive field goal attempts. Freshman guard Courtney Ramey added 10 points.
Ramey hit a pair of three-pointers to help Texas fight back from an early 11-2 deficit and tie the contest at 15-15 with 10:10 remaining in the half. Leading 21-19 at the 8:24 mark, the Friars used an 8-0 run to build a 29-19 cushion following a Jimmy Nichols jumper with 7:06 left. Osetkowski knocked down a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to cap a 12-4 Texas run over the last 3:37, as the Longhorns cut the deficit to five (39-34) at halftime.
Coleman III knocked down a corner three-pointer to cut the Providence lead to just one (51-50) at the 11:53 mark of the second half. Trailing 62-54 with 5:24 remaining, UT used an 8-2 spurt to draw within 64-62 following an Elijah Mitrou-Long layup at the 2:10 mark. Providence hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
