Febres scores a team-high 12 points to pace five Longhorns in double-figure scoring.
AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore guard Jase Febres registered a team-high 12 points to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (8-4) to a 76-56 win against UT Arlington (4-9) on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Febres was one of five Longhorns to reach double figures in scoring during the victory.
UTA first-year head coach Chris Ogden was a four-year player at Texas (1999-2003) who served as captain for UT's 2003 Final Four team. He also spent 12 seasons on the coaching staff at Texas.
Senior guard Kerwin Roach II and junior guard Elijah Mitrou-Long each registered 11 points for the Longhorns. Sophomore forward Royce Hamm Jr. recorded a career-high 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in 13 minutes off the bench. Freshman guard Courtney Ramey contributed 10 points and pulled down a career-high six rebounds.
The Longhorns jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead following a jumper from sophomore guard Matt Coleman III at the 16:25 mark and never trailed in the contest. Leading 14-10 at the 9:45 mark, Texas used a 9-1 run to build a 12-point cushion (23-11) after a Dylan Osetkowski jumper with 7:06 left. An emphatic block from Hamm with 12 seconds remaining sent the Longhorns into the locker room with a seven-point lead (33-26) at the break.
The Mavericks were unable to cut the deficit to fewer than 16 points after the 10-minute mark of the second half. Texas increased its margin to as much as 27 points (69-42) with 6:03 remaining.
