Dylan Osetkowski posted a team-high 21 points, and Mohamed Bamba brought down a career-high 18 boards while recording his 14th double-double of the year.
NORMAN, Okla. – Junior forward Dylan Osetkowski recorded a team-high 21 points to lead Texas to a 77-66 upset win over No. 23/23 Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday. The win helped the Longhorns post their first regular-season sweep over the Sooners since the 2011-12 season and marked their fourth top-25 victory of the year.
Osetkowski connected on three 3-pointers and brought down six rebounds in 32 minutes. Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba had a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with his 10 points (14th double-double of the season) and four blocks. Junior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, four rebounds and three assists, while freshman guard Matt Coleman contributed 11 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
The Longhorn defense held OU to 20-of-65 (30.8%) shooting from the field, including a 26.7 percent (8-of-30) mark from three-point range. Oklahoma entered the game as the nation's top scoring offense (averaging 88.4 points per game), but the Longhorns held the Sooners to a season-low 66 points. Texas was 30-of-55 (54.5%) from the field and knocked down eight 3-pointers, while also outrebounding the Sooners by a 43-31 margin.
Texas held an early 10-5 lead after a Coleman jumper at the 15:52 mark in the opening half. The Longhorns forced OU into 1-of-10 shooting over an 8:15 stretch, as Texas built a six-point (23-17) advantage with 7:12 remaining.
The Sooners trimmed the UT lead to 23-22 at the 5:55 mark after a 2:20 scoring drought for the Longhorns, but Texas responded with four straight to regain a five-point (27-22) lead with 3:17 to play. UT and Oklahoma traded 3-pointers to close out the half, and Texas headed to the break on top, 32-29.
Bamba paced the Longhorns in the first half with six points and 10 boards in 18 minutes. Texas held a 16-8 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded Oklahoma 24-17 in the opening 20 minutes. The Longhorn defense held OU to just 26 percent (8-of-31) shooting from the field, including 4-of-15 (27%) from beyond the arc.
Roach II drove the lane for a layup and Osetkowski hit a 3-pointer to give Texas a 37-31 lead coming out of the break. OU connected on 4-of-5 field goals to cut the Texas advantage to 45-44, but 12 straight points for the Longhorns over a 3:58 stretch built a 57-44 lead with 8:48 remaining.
Seven straight points extended the lead for UT to 14 (71-57) after an Osetkowski layup with three minutes to play. A pair of Bamba free throws with 32 seconds completed the scoring for the Longhorns. UT never trailed in the contest.
The Longhorns head to Manhattan, Kansas to face Kansas State on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Tip is set for 8 p.m. Central at Bramlage Coliseum, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
