No. 4 Women's Swimming and Diving sweeps second night at Big 12 Championships

Longhorns claim 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and the one-meter diving final.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 4 Texas swept all five events Thursday evening and stretched its lead in the Big 12 Championships at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Freshman Evie Pfeifer captured her first career Big 12 title Thursday evening in the 500-yard freestyle. The St. Louis native clocked 4:37.81, which made her the third-fastest Longhorn ever with the fourth-fastest swim at Texas. Junior Quinn Carrozza followed in second at 4:41.41 while sophomore Lauren Case took third at 4:43.88.
Junior Nora McCullagh claimed her first career Big 12 individual title in the 200 IM. McCullagh took the win at 1:56.96 while her classmate Brooke Hansen placed third at 1:57.85. Freshman Maxine Wolters placed fourth at 2:00.60.
Senior Rebecca Millard won her third Big 12 title in the 50 freestyle in as many seasons. The Californian took the win at 21.91, just off of the NCAA automatic-qualifying cut of 21.80. Junior Remedy Rule finished as the runner-up at 22.48 while junior Anelise Diener placed fifth at 22.54. Freshman Emily Reese placed sixth at 22.94, and sophomore Kennedy Lohman took seventh at 23.14.
"It means a lot," said Millard of winning her third straight league title in the 50 free. "The Big 12 Championships are really fun. It means sharpening up our races and working on the details, and the details are finally starting to get together. It is pretty exciting."
Austin native Alison Gibson took home her first Big 12 title Thursday night in the one-meter diving final. Gibson, the 2017 NCAA champion in the same event, was victorious with a Big 12 record total of 356.25 points.
Junior Meghan O'Brien took second at 352.30, which also eclipsed Maren Taylor's previous Big 12 record, while redshirt junior Murphy Bromberg placed third with 320.75 points. Junior Sofia Rauzi rounded out the Longhorns contingent in fourth place at 311.50.
Texas capped the evening with a convincing victory in the 400 medley relay. Sophomore Claire Adams joined Lohman, Rule and Millard to finish in 3:29.51, good for the No. 3 mark all-time at UT and the fifth-fastest time nationally this season.
Texas leads the meet through the second of four days with 374 points. Kansas sits in second with 218 points while West Virginia holds third with 199 points. Iowa State is in fourth place with 176 points, and TCU rounds out the standings in fifth with 145 points.
Day three of the Big 12 Championships gets underway Friday at 10 a.m. CT.
