AUSTIN, Texas – No. 24 Texas (7-2) dropped the doubles point but rallied behind five singles wins to a 5-2 victory over Georgia Tech (3-7) Sunday afternoon indoors at Weller Tennis Center. The match was delayed and ultimately relocated due to the threat of inclement weather.
Georgia Tech opened with a victory at third doubles before UT junior Adrian Ortiz and sophomore Christian Sigsgaard answered with a 6-3 win over Elijah Melendez and Daniel Yun at second doubles. The deciding match at first doubles progressed to a tiebreaker, where the Yellow Jackets prevailed, 7-5 to win the doubles point.
Texas All-America sophomore Yuya Ito evened the tally at one with his 6-1, 6-2 win over the 41st-ranked Carlos Divar at first singles. Junior Colin Markes gave the Longhorns the lead for good with his 6-4, 6-2 victory over Daniel Yun at sixth singles.
Junior Harrison Scott staked the Horns to a 3-1 cushion behind his 6-4, 6-1 victory over Andrew Li at third singles. Sigsgaard clinched Texas' team win with his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Phillip Gresk at second singles.
