No. 3 Rowing advances all five boats to grand finals at 2018 Big 12 Championships

Five Longhorn boats will race for the Big 12 Conference title on Sunday
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — No. 3 Texas claimed the top spot in each of its five heat races on Saturday afternoon during day one of the 2018 Big 12 Championships.
Day two of racing on Sunday will feature the grand finals (championship finals) and the petite finals (consolation finals). The Longhorns reached the grand finals in all five boats.
Texas' first varsity eight exploded out of the stake boats, setting the bar high on day one with a 6:32.399 win over Alabama, Kansas, and West Virginia.
The second varsity eight followed in suit, notching a time of 6:43.152 and finishing ahead of Alabama, Kansas State, and Old Dominion.
The varsity four defended its early speed to the finish line, ending with a time of 7:31.108 as Tennessee, Kansas State and West Virginia fell behind. The second varsity four swung together into first place at 7:41.444, defeating Tennessee and Kansas State.
In the last preliminary race of the day, the third varsity eight crossed the line first at 7:01.539 over Tennessee and Kansas State, insuring Texas as five-for-five on the day.
In an exhibition grand final race, Texas raced a third varsity four and won over Alabama with a time of 7:41.831.
Day two of the 2018 Big 12 Championships begins on Sunday at 8 a.m. CT, with Texas looking to claim its eighth Big 12 title in the last 10 years. UT will hit the water at 8:15 a.m. CT with the 3V8 grand final.
