AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Volleyball will add Jhenna Gabriel for the class of 2018, the program announced on Friday.
"I'm very excited to have Jhenna join our program," Head Coach Jerritt Elliott said. "She is a very dynamic player that can play defense and pass. She loves to train and compete and has an arsenal of skill sets."
Gabriel, a 5-8 setter/libero out of Honolulu, Hawaii, is the career leader in assists and digs for Maryknoll School.
She was named All-League all four years and All-State for three years, also earning TopPerformer Player of the Week honors for the State of Hawaii.
"I think she was underappreciated as a recruit," Elliott said. "She is an elite athlete that has had high-level training from her RVC club in Hawaii. Our fans are going to see that she has speed like Chloe Collins."
In 2017, Gabriel led Rainbow Volleyball Club to a 22nd-place finish at the AAU 18U National Championships and was selected to the A1 Team. In 2016, she led her team to a 17th place in Open at the AAU National Championships, placed third in 2015, and won the 2014 AAU Volleyball Festival National Championship.
"The best thing about Jhenna is her personality," Elliott said. "She is a go-getter. She just wants an opportunity to compete and she will be so excited to prove herself. She is going to add a lot. All she wants to do is find a spot on the floor, regardless of the position. We are excited for her to join our team and bring her high level of volleyball and technical IQ."
Gabriel will join Sydney Petersen and Asjia O'Neal to compete in fall of 2018.
