Women's Golf's Schubert, Team USA win 2018 Curtis Cup

Schubert scored 2.5 points for the United States at the Curtis Cup.
SCARSDALE, N.Y. - The United States Curtis Cup Team, featuring Texas women's golf senior Sophia Schubert, claimed the 40th Curtis Cup Match 17-3 on Sunday at Quaker Ridge Golf Club. It marked the largest margin of victory in the history of the biennial competition, which began in 1932.
Schubert, who was the first to tee off for the United States on Sunday, won her singles match against Great Britain and Ireland's Olivia Mehaffey, 2 and 1. The U.S. swept each of the eight singles matches on Sunday.
"I was so excited to get out here today," Schubert said. "I played okay yesterday and the day before, but I was just ready to come out here and play their best player and just show them what I can do. This week has just been unreal. This has been a dream of mine for a really long time, just to make the Curtis Cup Team."
For the first time in the history of the competition, every USA player claimed at least two points. Schubert won her Saturday foursome and her Sunday single, while halving her four-ball match on Friday.
The USA now leads the Curtis Cup series 29-8-3. The USA claimed all five sessions of this year's competition, a first since the format switch in 2008.
Schubert was named a WGCA First-Team All-American in 2018 and was an All-Big 12 Conference selection for the third consecutive season. She tied for 21st at the 2018 NCAA Championship, which was a career-best NCAA Championship finish. For her career as a Longhorn, Schubert carded a career scoring average of 72.64 and posted two wins at Texas. She had 14 top-five finishes, 19 top-10 showings and 28 top-20 finishes. Schubert helped lead Texas to three consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, a pair of Big 12 Conference titles and, in 2018, the program's best finish at the NCAA Championship [T-12] since 2004. This past season, she set the UT school record for single-season stroke average at 71.76 and finished in the top-25 in each of the eight tournaments in which she participated.
