AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas announced its 2018 Cross Country schedule on Monday. Edrick Floréal begins his first season at the helm of the UT programs with Pete Watson overseeing the men's cross country program and two-time Olympian PattiSue Plumer the women.
"Our 2018 cross country schedule is one that both challenges our student-athletes but also prepares our team for the postseason," Floréal said. "We are excited to begin the season at home with the Texas Invitational and also have an opportunity to run on both the Regional and National Championship courses during the regular season, as well. We are ready for the student-athletes to be back on campus and to get the season started."
The Longhorns begin their season on Friday, Aug. 31 with the lone home meet of the campaign. UT's home meet will begin at 6 p.m. at Old Settlers Park, the site of last year's Big 12 Championships.
The following weekend, the Longhorns will head to Houston to run at the Rice Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7. After a few weeks of training, UT travels to the site of the NCAA Championships to compete in Madison at the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28. On Oct. 13, UT will head to the site of the NCAA South Central Regional, competing in the Texas A&M Invitational.
The postseason begins on Friday, Oct. 26 when the Longhorns travel to Ames, Iowa for Big 12 Championships. UT will be back in College Station for the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday, Nov. 9 before returning to Madison, Wisc. for the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The men finished second in the Big 12 Conference last season and return all five All-Big 12 Conference performers, including Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Sam Worley, who finished third at the conference meet. Connor O'Neill, Alex Rogers, John Rice and Charles Mills all finished in the top 13 and all return, as well.
The women finished third in the Big 12 Conference in 2017 after finishing seventh the season prior. Destiny Collins led the way, finishing seventh at the conference meet, while All-Big 12 performer Alex Cruz also returns in 2018.
