Spasojevic advances to singles qualifying stage at Riviera/ITA All-Americans

Freshman posts dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory in third round of pre-qualifying to move on to Tuesday’s qualifying draw.
MALIBU, Calif. — University of Texas freshman Tijana Spasojevic posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory Sunday against Pepperdine's Adrijana Lekaj in the third and final round of pre-qualifying singles action at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. After winning a pair of straight-set matches on Saturday, Spasojevic's victory on Sunday earned her a spot in the singles qualifying stage which begins Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Sophomore Bojana Markovic, No. 95 in the Oracle/ITA preseason rankings, fell to Wisconsin's Lexi Keberie 6-4, 6-4 in the final round of pre-qualifying. Markovic also had earned two singles wins on Saturday.
In pre-qualifying doubles second-round action on Sunday, Spasojevic and sophomore Marta Perez-Mur dropped an 8-6 decision to Florida's 57th-ranked duo of McCartney Kessler and Ida Jarkskog.
Qualifying and main-draw matches will be held at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Qualifying singles and doubles are set for Oct. 2-3, and the main draw will run Oct. 4-7. Juniors Anna Turati and Petra Granic will begin competition in the qualifying singles, while Granic will team with Markovic in the doubles main draw.
