Matt Coleman III paced five Longhorns in double-figure scoring with 16 points and a season-high 8 assists without a turnover.
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Sophomore point guard Matt Coleman III recorded a team-high 16 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (10-7, 2-3 Big 12) fell 80-78 to No. 7/8 Kansas (15-2, 4-1 Big 12) on Monday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Coleman hit 7-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and added a season-high 8 assists without a turnover and 4 rebounds.
Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski registered 11 points and 9 rebounds, while freshman guard Courtney Ramey posted 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists without a turnover. Senior guard Kerwin Roach tallied 13 points and 4 assists, while sophomore guard Jase Febres contributed 12 points while hitting 4-of-11 from three-point range.
Kansas jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening two minutes, before UT answered with an Osetkowski dunk and a Coleman three-pointer to trim the margin to 8-5 at the 17:02 mark. Trailing 29-24 with 5:58 remaining, Febres and junior guard Elijah Mitrou-Long hit back-to-back threes to give the Longhorns their first lead of the contest (30-29) at the 4:12 mark.
The Longhorns increased their cushion to 40-35 following a Roach layup with 30 seconds left, but Kansas closed the half with a Lagerald Vick three-pointer to cut the deficit to 40-38 entering the break. UT converted 8-of-19 (42.1-percent) from three-point range in the opening half.
Kansas scored the first seven points of the second half to grab a 45-40 lead following a Devon Dotson free throw at the 18:19 mark. The Jayhawks built their cushion to as much as 10 points (69-59) with 5:01 remaining, Texas responded with a 14-4 over the next two-and-a-half minutes and tied the contest at 73-73 on a Febres three-pointer at the 2:26 mark.
Trailing 79-75 following a Dedric Lawson free throw with 13 seconds left, Ramey knocked down a three-pointer to pull UT within 79-78 with 9 seconds remaining. KU's Marcus Garrett knocked down 1-of-2 free throws with 5 seconds left, and Febres missed a contested three-pointer on Texas' final possession.

- UT's two-point loss marked the closest margin of victory by Kansas in the series in games played in Lawrence since the Longhorns posted a 74-63 win in the 2010-11 season.
