Kerwin Roach II posted a game-high 23 points, while Dylan Osetkowski added a double-double to lead the Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded a game-high 23 points to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (11-7, 3-3 Big 12) past No. 20/19 Oklahoma 75-72 on Saturday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas improved to 4-0 in home games against the Sooners (13-5, 2-4 Big 12) under head coach Shaka Smart, including three wins when OU was ranked in the AP Top 20.
Roach connected on 9-of-16 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and added 8 rebounds. Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski notched his fifth double-double of the season, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes tied his career high with 15 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line, and set a new career high with 5 blocks. Sophomore guard Matt Coleman III contributed 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
Roach II accounted for 11 of UT's first 15 points, connecting on 3-of-4 from three-point range, to give the Longhorns a 15-9 advantage at the 8:31 mark. Leading 17-15 with 4:49 left, Osetkowski scored the next eight points for UT to increase the cushion to 25-17 at the 2:42 mark.
OU's Christian James knocked down a three-pointer with one second left to trim UT's lead to five (29-24) at the half. Texas' defense held Oklahoma to just 10-of-30 shooting (33.3 percent) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
Jamuni McNeace knocked down a jumper with 12:36 left to give OU its first lead (47-45) since the 13:42 mark of the first half. UT used an 8-0 spurt, capped by an emphatic Hayes dunk, to take a three-point lead (56-53) with 8:24 remaining.
An Osetkowski basket gave the Longhorns a 68-66 lead at the 1:47 mark, but Jamal Bieniemy responded with a three-pointer to push the Sooners ahead 69-68 with 1:22 remaining. Coleman converted a pair of free throws, and sophomore guard Jase Febres hit a three-pointer from the right corner to give Texas a 73-69 cushion with 32 seconds left.
Bieniemy answered with a three-pointer to pull the Sooners to within 73-72 with 21 seconds left. Coleman and Hayes each added single free throws in the final 19 seconds, and OU failed to connect on its final three field goal attempts.
