Kerwin Roach II paced three Longhorns in double-figure scoring with a team-high 15 points.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Senior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded a team-high 15 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (11-8, 3-4 Big 12) fell 65-61 to TCU (14-5, 3-3 Big 12) on Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena. Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes added 10 points, 6 boards and tied a career high with 5 blocks, while freshman guard Courtney Ramey added 10 points, 5 assists and a career-high 3 steals.
A Ramey three-pointer capped an 8-0 spurt, as Texas took a 20-17 lead at the 9:47 mark. UT committed six turnovers over the span of eight possessions, allowing TCU to take a one-point advantage (28-27) with 3:16 left. TCU's Kouat Noi had a follow dunk with 12 seconds left to give the Horned Frogs a four-point cushion (35-31) at the half.
Kevin Samuel accounted for six straight points for TCU to increase its lead to seven (43-36) at the 17:02 mark. TCU led by as many as 12 points in the second half (48-36), but the Longhorns utilized a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just five (48-43) with 11:01 remaining.
Sophomore guard Jase Febres converted a jumper and a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to trim TCU's lead to three (62-59) with 2:57 left. A steal by Elijah Mitrou-Long led to a Hayes layup, but UT still trailed 64-61 with 22 seconds left. Mitrou-Long could not connect on a game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left.
