Freshman guard Courtney Ramey led five Longhorns in double-figure scoring with a career-high 19 points.
ATHENS, Ga. — Freshman guard Courtney Ramey posted a career-high 19 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (11-9, 3-4 Big 12) fell 98-88 to Georgia (10-9, 1-5 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. The contest was part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge presented by Continental.
Georgia's offense proved to be the difference in the game. The Bulldogs converted 66.7-percent from the floor, including a 70.6-percent (12-17) mark from three-point range.
Ramey converted a career-high 7-of-15 from the floor, including a career-best 5-of-8 clip from three-point range, and added 5 assists in a career-high 38 minutes. Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski recorded 15 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 7 steals. Senior guard Kerwin Roach II added 16 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, while freshman forward Jaxson Hayes chipped in 14 points.
Texas' offense was clicking early, hitting its first four attempts from three-point range, as the Longhorns took an 8-point lead (21-13) at the 12:04 mark. The Bulldogs answered with a 17-2 run to build a 7-point advantage (30-23) with 9:27 remaining. Georgia's 12th turnover of the first half set up a layup by Ramey with eight seconds left to tie the game (46-46) at the break.
The Bulldogs were efficient on the offensive end in the second half. Georgia hit 76.2-percent (16-21) from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and 16-of-18 (.889) from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.
A Teshaun Hightower three-point play gave the Bulldogs a 64-55 cushion at the 14:16 mark. A Roach three-point play trimmed the deficit to five (76-71) with 6:45 remaining. However, Georgia's Nicolas Claxton responded with a dunk and a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 10-point lead (81-71) at the 4:49 mark. Georgia knocked down 13-of-14 from the free throw line over the last 1:47 of the game to seal the win.
