Kerwin Roach II paced the Longhorns with a team-high 18 points and 7 rebounds.
STILLWATER, Okla. — Senior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded a team-high 18 points and 7 rebounds, but the University of Texas Men's Basketball team (10-5, 2-1 Big 12) fell 61-58 to Oklahoma State (7-8, 1-2 Big 12) on Tuesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Roach converted 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line in 32 minutes.
Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes registered 13 points, 6 rebounds and tied his career high with 4 blocked shots in 31 minutes. Hayes has posted 8 blocks in his last two contests and has recorded at least 2 blocks in 14 of his first 15 games.
The Cowboys jumped out to a 10-3 lead following a Michael Weathers layup at the 13:44 mark. After a Roach layup trimmed the margin to 15-10 with 9:29 remaining, Oklahoma State used a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to build a 27-12 cushion at the 6:22 mark. The lead increased to as much as 19 points (39-20) following a pair of Lindy Waters free throws with 1:05 left, before a Roach layup brought the Longhorns to within 39-22 at the break.
Trailing 48-32 with 12:42 remaining, the Longhorns went on a 9-0 run to cut the gap to 48-41 after another Roach layup at the 8:27 mark. OSU held a 57-47 cushion following a Weather free throw with 5:15 left, but Texas used an 11-2 spurt to trim the margin to a single point (59-58) after a Matt Coleman III layup with 11 seconds left.
Isaac Likekele hit a pair of free throws to give the Cowboys a 61-58 lead. On UT's final possession, freshman guard Courtney Ramey missed a long-range three-pointer at the buzzer.
