Softball releases its 2019 fall schedule

Texas’ Nov. 3 doubleheader against St. Mary’s & McLennan CC is slated for broadcast on Longhorn Network
AUSTIN, Texas – Coming off a 46-17 campaign that saw the Longhorns reach the deciding game of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Super Regional, the University of Texas softball program and head coach Mike White are pleased to announce the eight-game schedule for the upcoming 2019 fall season.
In all, seven of UT's eight fall match-ups will be hosted within the friendly confines of Red & Charline McCombs Field, beginning with games against Tarleton State and Vernon College on Sat., Oct. 26 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CT, respectively.
For the second straight season, the Burnt Orange & White will open their fall slate by traveling to Houston, Texas, to battle Southeastern Conference power LSU at the Scrapyard Dawgs (National Pro Fastpitch) facility on Fri., Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. CT.
The remainder of the home slate includes doubleheaders against St. Edward's/Temple College (Sat., Nov. 2, Noon and 2 p.m. CT) and St. Mary's/McLennan Community College (Sun., Nov. 3, Noon & 2:30 p.m. CT live on Longhorn Network) as well as a single contest against Texas State (Fri., Nov. 8, 6 p.m. CT).
UT is returning 11 student-athletes that earned playing time in at least 41 games last season (eight of those started at least 37 match-ups) and 15 total letter winners that combined to total 84% of the runs, 90% of the hits, 93% of the doubles, 88% of the HR's, 89% of the RBIs, 88% of the walks and 75% of the stolen bases. From a pitching standpoint, Texas returns 80% of the pitching wins, 75% of the starts, 91% of the complete games, 89% of the solo shutouts, 78% of the innings pitched and 74% of the strikeouts.
Included among the returnees are a trio of 2019 Softball America All-Americans in senior pitcher Miranda Elish (18-10, 1.81 ERA, 29 starts, 20 complete games, 11 solo shutouts, 226 K's, 185.1 IP), junior second baseman Janae Jefferson (.408 avg., 80 hits, six doubles, 11 walks, 10 steals, 23 RBIs) and sophomore pitcher Shealyn O'Leary (14-3, NCAA Division I-leading 0.65 ERA, 14 starts, four solo shutouts, 65 K's, 97.2 IP). Award winners from 2019 also returning are NFCA All-Central Region junior catcher Mary Iakopo (.356 avg., 57 hits, five doubles, 11 HR's, 29 walks, 43 RBIs) and All-Big 12 senior outfielder Kaitlyn Washington (.297 avg., 47 hits, 14 doubles, four HR's. 36 RBIs).
The Longhorns are also adding a six-member class of five freshmen and one transfer to the mix including former UCLA sophomore catcher/first baseman Colleen Sullivan as well as announced signees: Camille Corona (IF/Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs High School/Texas Bombers & Blaze United), Courtney Day (P/UTL/Pearland, Texas/Dawson H.S./Aces Express Gold McCorkle) Grace Green (LHP/North Richland Hills, Texas/Birdville High School/Team Mizuno Impulse), London Marder (C-UTIL/Humble, Texas/Atascocita High School/Scrap Yard Internationals) and Alyssa Popelka (IF-UTIL/Austin, Texas/Westwood High School/Texas Premier Fastpitch).
