AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas women's tennis senior twin sisters Anna Turati and Bianca Turati captured the doubles championship and each advanced to the singles final during play Saturday at the H-E-B Women's Pro Tennis Open at the Texas Tennis Center. The tournament is an ITF (International Tennis Federation) 15k pro circuit event.
In Saturday's doubles final, the Turati twins earned their professional doubles title with a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory against the tourney's No. 1 seed, junior Fernanda Labraña and Melany Solange Krywoj (Argentina). The Turati twins grabbed a 4-1 lead in the opening set before Labraña and Krywoj won back-to-back games to pull within 4-3. The twins broke Labraña and Krywoj and then held serve in a deuce game to win the first set, 6-3.
Labraña and Krywoj won the first three games of the second frame, before the Turati twins gained a service break to trail 3-1. Labraña and Krywoj responded with a break of their own and won the next two games to take the second set, 6-1, and even the match.
In the 10-point third-set tiebreaker, the two teams split the first two points. The Turati twins won six straight points to build a 7-1 cushion, before Labraña and Krywoj answered with three consecutive points to trim the margin to 7-4.
