AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore guard Courtney Ramey tied his career high with 19 points, while junior forward Jericho Sims added his first collegiate double-double to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (3-0) to a 67-54 victory against California Baptist (2-1) on Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. The contest was a Regional Round game as part of the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Ramey also tied his career high in field goals made, converted 8-of-11 from the floor, and added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 36 minutes. Sims produced 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, tying a career high with seven offensive boards, in 28 minutes. Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points.
Texas led 26-22 at the break after a cold-shooting first half, hitting just 28.6% (10-35) from the floor. The Longhorns converted 64.0% (16-25) of their field goals in the second half, including a 4-of-8 (.500) mark from three-point range. UT held the Lancers to 34.5% (20-58) from the floor on the night.
