AUSTIN, Texas — Junior point guard Matt Coleman III recorded a game-high 17 points and 4 assists, while freshman guard Donovan Williams added a season-high 13 points and 4 steals to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (4-0) to a 70-56 victory against Prairie View A&M (1-3) on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center. The contest was a Regional Round game as part of the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones added 15 points, while junior guard Jase Febres also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. Junior forward Jericho Sims reached double figures in rebounds (10) for the second straight game.
Texas led 26-22 at the break for the second consecutive contest. The Longhorns hit just 10-of-29 (.345) from the floor, including a 4-of-18 (.222) mark from three-point range, in the opening 20 minutes.
UT scored 44 points while converting 50% (14-28) from the floor in the second half. The Longhorns held the Panthers to just 3-of-13 shooting (.231) from the three-point line for the contest and tied a team season high with 11 steals. Prairie View A&M produced just 3 assists against 21 turnovers forced.
