NEW YORK, N.Y. — Junior point guard Matt Coleman III posted a game-high 22 points while converting a career-best 6-of-6 from three-point range, but The No. 22/22 University of Texas Men's Basketball team (4-1) fell 82-66 to Georgetown (4-1) on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. This marked a semifinal contest as part of the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.
With the loss, the Longhorns will face California (4-1) in the third-place game on Friday, Nov. 22. Tip for Friday's contest is set for 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET), and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
The game was a tale of two halves. In the opening 20 minutes, the Longhorns converted 50% (17-34) from the floor, including 44.4% (8-18) from three-point range, and posted a 19-11 rebound margin while building a 42-37 lead at the break.
The Hoyas outscored Texas by a 45-24 margin in the second half. Georgetown connected on 57.7% (15-26) from the floor and 82.4% (14-17) from the line in the final minutes. UT hit just 22.2% (6-27) from the field, including a 27.3% mark (3-11) from three-point range in the second half.
