Three Longhorns advance in qualifying at DropshotLLC Men’s Pro Tennis Open

Current Men’s Tennis members Nevin Arimilli and Chih Chi Huang, along with former member Colin Markes reached the second round of qualifying on Monday.
Austin, Texas – Three current or former members of the Men's Tennis team advanced to the second round of singles qualifying at the DropshotLLC Men's Pro Tennis Open at the Texas Tennis Center on Monday.
Sophomore Nevin Arimilli captured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Joao Pedro Alcantara of Brazil, sophomore Chih Chi Huang defeated Ricardo Alban of Ecuador, 7-5, 6-2, and former Longhorn Colin Markes downed Eduardo Neftali Irizarry of Puerto Rico, 6-4, 6-1.
Additionally, freshman Jacob Bullard fell in an extremely close match in a third-set superbreaker to Joshua Sheehy of the United States, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (1), while fellow freshman Eshan Talluri came up short against Texas signee Leighton Allen, 6-2, 6-3.
Arimilli and Huang will now face each other in the second round of qualifying at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, while Markes will also play at that time against Eric Morris of the United States.
The main singles draw will also begin on Tuesday with matches in the round of 32. At approximately 11:30 a.m. freshman Cleeve Harper will face Texas signee Eliot Spizzirri, while freshman Siem Woldeab squares off against Haru Inoue of Japan. The three other main draw singles matches involving Longhorns will take place on Wednesday.
The main draw round of 16 in doubles will start on Tuesday, as well, with Bullard and freshman Evin McDonald playing Spizzirri and Tyler Zink of the United States. Meanwhile, former Longhorn George Goldhoff will partner with Jaime Bendeck of Honduras against Sheehy and Demetris Azoides of Greece. Three other pairs involving Longhorns will play on Wednesday.
