AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore guard Courtney Ramey registered 14 points and converted a pair of free throws with 8 seconds left to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (6-1) to a 73-71 victory against McNeese State (2-6) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center. UT completed the month of November with a 6-1 record, its best mark in the Shaka Smart era.
Redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Jones added 14 points, while junior forward Jericho Sims posted 12 points and 9 rebounds. Junior point guard Matt Coleman III tallied 10 assists without a turnover in 38 minutes and contributed 9 points and 6 rebounds.
The Longhorns registered a +13 rebound margin (37-24), including a 17-5 advantage on the offensive glass. McNeese State converted 52-percent (26-50) from the field, including a 50-percent mark (8-16) from beyond the arc.
McNeese had possession with 35 seconds remaining and the game tied at 71-71. Guard Dru Kuxhausen missed a running jumper with 9 seconds left and then fouled Ramey while attempting to get the rebound. Facing a one-and-one with 8 seconds remaining, Ramey calmly knocked down two free throws to give the Longhorns a 73-71 cushion. Leondre Washington missed a three-pointer with 3 seconds left for the Cowboys.
