Senior guard Kerwin Roach II recorded a game-high 17 points to pace the Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior guard Kerwin Roach II scored a game-high 17 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (14-11, 6-6 Big 12) fell 71-64 to No. 18/18 Kansas State (19-5, 9-2 Big 12) on Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Roach tied a season high by hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw line and added 8 rebounds in 36 minutes.
Freshman guard Courtney Ramey tallied 10 points and tied a career high with 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Matt Coleman III added 9 points and 5 assists, while senior forward Dylan Osetkowski and freshman forward Jaxson Hayes each contributed 9 points.
Roach scored six straight points to give Texas a one-point lead (20-19) at the 9:29 mark. Ramey knocked down a three-pointer to push UT's cushion to eight (39-31) at the 1:37 mark. Kansas State's Barry Brown connected on a jumper with 7 seconds left to cut Texas' lead to four (39-35) at the half.
An 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half allowed the Wildcats to gain a three-point advantage (45-42) at the 17:04 mark. Texas responded with a Coleman layup and an Osetkowski three-pointer to re-take the lead (47-45), but K-State used a 9-0 spurt to go ahead by seven (54-47) at the 13:28 mark.
A three-point basket by Jase Febres brought the Longhorns within four (67-63) with 4:04 remaining. Hayes then hit one-of-two free throws to trim the margin to three (67-64) at the 2:17 mark. Texas went scoreless for the remainder of the game, and the Wildcats sunk four free throws over the last 1:26 to seal the win.
