Men’s Tennis up to No. 3, five players rated in latest Oracle/ITA Rankings

The Longhorns attained their highest team ranking since 2011 and have four singles players and two doubles pairs ranked.
Austin – The Texas Men's Tennis Team moved up three spots to No. 3, their highest ranking since 2011, and had five different players individually listed, including four in singles and two doubles pairs, in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings released Wednesday. The Longhorns were last ranked No. 3 by the ITA on March 8, 2011.
Junior Christian Sigsgaard remained in the top 10 at No. 8, while junior Yuya Ito moved up two spots to No. 12. Senior Harrison Scott returned to rankings at No. 59, and senior Leonardo Telles jumped 24 spots from No. 91 to No. 67. The doubles pair of Sigsgaard and Scott checked in at No. 39, while Ito and freshman Chih Chi Huang debuted as a duo at No. 57.
For the season, Sigsgaard is 27-8 overall in singles, including a 6-4 mark in dual match play with one left unfinished, all at first singles. Eight of his 11 opponents in those matches have been ranked.
Ito is 21-4 overall in singles and leads the team with a 10-1 mark in dual matches, all at second singles. He had a 14-match winning streak snapped in his last contest and has defeated three ranked players in dual matches.
Scott has posted a 15-7 singles record overall and is 7-2 in dual match play with eight of those coming at fourth singles, including two wins over top-70 foes.
Telles is 12-3 overall in singles and is 5-1 in dual matches, playing third singles in all except one. Five of his matches have been left unfinished, however he has also posted two wins over top-60 opponents.
The pair of Sigsgaard and Scott has tallied a 14-3 record overall and his 6-1 in dual matches with five unfinished, all at first doubles. Huang and Ito are 8-2 with nine of those coming at third doubles. This past weekend they topped No. 21 Daniel Cukierman and Tanner Smith of USC.
This season Texas is 11-1 in dual match play including wins over No. 14 Illinois and No. 5 USC in Chicago, along with No. 6 North Carolina in Austin. Its lone defeat came against No. 2 Ohio State in Chicago in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championship. The Longhorns began the season 10-0, their best mark to open a year since being 15-0 in 2002.
After finishing their run at the ITA Indoors on Sunday, Texas will have had nine days off before returning to the court, first at No. 19 Tulane on Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. in New Orleans, and then at No. 24 Georgia on March 3 at 12 p.m. CT/1 p.m. ET in Athens.
