Sophomore guard Jase Febres posts a team-high 15 points to lead five Longhorns in double-figure scoring.
NORMAN, Okla. — Sophomore guard Jase Febres scored a team-high 15 points, but The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (15-12, 7-7 Big 12) fell 69-67 at Oklahoma (17-10, 5-9 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center. Febres converted 5-of-15 from three-point range while adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a career-high 35 minutes.
Freshman forward Jaxson Hayes scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and registered a career-high 6 blocks and 6 rebounds. Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski tallied 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, while freshman guard Courtney Ramey and sophomore guard Matt Coleman III each contributed 11 points.
OU hit 4-of-5 from three-point range to start the contest and built a nine-point advantage (24-15) at the 11:00 mark. OU outscored the Longhorns 10-3 over the last 6:15 of the first half to take a 42-28 lead into the locker room. The Sooners converted 56.7-percent (17-30) from the floor, including 6-of-9 from three-point range, in the first half.
After trailing by as many as 17 (50-33) with 16:21 remaining, a 7-0 spurt by the Longhorns trimmed the margin to 10 (50-40) at the 12:56 mark. Made field goals by Coleman and Hayes on consecutive possessions allowed Texas to cut OU's lead to six (63-57) with 5:29 left.
Febres connected on a three-pointer to pull the Longhorns within three (67-64) at the 2:52 mark. OU's Kristian Doolittle hit a jumper to push Oklahoma's cushion back to five (69-64), but Febres countered with his fifth 3-pointer of the afternoon to cut the lead to two (69-67) with 53 seconds left.
The Longhorns had an opportunity to tie or win the game after a missed Doolittle free throw with 5.7 seconds left. However, Coleman's three-point attempt was blocked by Jamal Bieniemy.
